A Compact Strong-scatter Scintillation Model

چکیده
This document describes numerical solutions to the 4-order moment equation for scintillation under strong scatter conditions. It is well known that scintillation depends on the parameters that describe the structure size distribution, and the Fresnel radius. However, in an unconstrained fixed power-law environment, the theory can be formulated in terms of a single parameter. In effect, different combinations of perturbation strength, propagation distance, and frequency produce exactly the same results. This paper exploits this relation and extends it to two-component power-law spectra.

Constrained And Unconstrained Power Law Irregularity Models for Interpreting Strong Scintillation Data
We compare constrained and unconstrained power law irregularity models for characterizing and interpreting scintillations caused by field-aligned irregularities in the equatorial ionosphere. The unconstrained irregularity model we consider is the two-component power law model described in (Carrano and Rino, Radio Sci., 2016). The constrained irregularity model encapsulates this twocomponent mod...
متن کاملEvaluation of the performance of parallel-hole collimator for high resolution small animal SPECT: A Monte Carlo study
Introduction: Image quality and accuracy of in vivo activity quantification in SPECT are affected by collimator penetration and scatter components, especially in high energy imaging. These phenomena highly depend on the collimator characteristic and photon energy. The presence of penetrated and scattered photons from collimator in SPECT images degrades spatial resolution, contr...

for Two-Component Power Law Irregularity Spectra Charles S. Carrano, Charles L. Rino Institute for Scientific Research Boston College ABSTRACT We extend the phase screen power law theory for ionospheric scintillation to account for the case where the refractive index irregularities follow a two-component power law spectrum. The twocomponent model includes, as special cases, an unmodified power ...

We present the first unambiguous case of external variability of a radio gravitational lens, CLASS B1600+434. The Very Large Array (VLA) 8.5–GHz difference light curve of the lensed images, taking the proper time-delay into account, shows the presence of external variability with 14.6–σ confidence. We investigate two plausible causes of this external variability: scattering by the ionized compo...
